Mobile coverage boost planned for rural Stirling communities

Plans are underway to significantly improve mobile phone coverage across rural parts of Stirlingshire, with new masts and upgrades being delivered through the Shared Rural Network (SRN) programme.
Two new masts have been proposed in Balquhidder, identified in close collaboration between local residents, the Community Council, and Cornerstone (on behalf of Vodafone). The masts will improve signal for local people and visitors, while also strengthening safety and connectivity in remote areas.
Further work is planned elsewhere in the area. Two masts will support coverage improvements in Glenlochay, while an upgrade to an existing mast near Stronachlachar will enhance coverage extending into parts of Loch Lomond, Ben Lomond, and Loch Arklet. An additional upgrade at Loch Achray will, for the first time, provide coverage from all operators, improving signal across the Trossachs, Brig O’Turk, Callander, Invertrossachs, and the eastern end of Loch Katrine.
Thanks to the SRN programme, funded by the UK Government, 4G outdoor coverage from all operators in the Stirling and Strathallan constituency has already risen from 44% to 65% and is expected to reach 69% by the end of the programme. Coverage from any operator has risen from 79% to 88%, and will reach 89%.
Chris has welcomed the improvements, saying:
“Access to reliable mobile coverage isn’t just a convenience, it’s vital for safety, for businesses, and for families living in and visiting our rural communities. I’m pleased to see real progress being made through the Shared Rural Network, with new masts and upgrades coming to Balquhidder, Glenlochay, Stronachlachar, Loch Achray, and beyond. I would like to thank the local Community Councils and residents who have worked closely with providers to ensure that sites meet the needs of their communities.
This is a real step forward, but I will continue to press for even better coverage, so no community in our constituency is left behind.”
