Chris has welcomed the opening of new UK Government grants of up to £10,000 to support local Armed Forces Day events in 2026.

The Ministry of Defence scheme, open now until 31 March 2026, offers match‑funded support to help communities recognise serving personnel, veterans, cadets and their families. Funding can support a wide range of eligible costs, including road closures, event insurance, security, first aid provision, advertising, and branded decorations.

Chris said:

“Armed Forces Day is an important moment for us to come together and recognise the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community. This funding can help enhance our annual celebration and make it a real headline moment for Stirling.”

Stirling has a proud record of marking Armed Forces Day. In 2014, the city hosted the National Armed Forces Day, attracting more than 35,000 visitors and delivering over £1.5 million in economic benefit. Chris said the pride, emotion and sense of community felt that day remain widely remembered.

“While 2014 was exceptional in scale, the spirit it created is something we can build on locally once again,” he added.

Chris confirmed he will be supporting efforts to deliver a strong Armed Forces Day celebration for Stirling in 2026, including assisting local organisers with the grant process where appropriate.
