Chris Raises Heating Oil Price Surge in Parliament to Support Rural Scots

Chris has raised urgent questions in Parliament following the sharp rise in heating oil prices affecting rural and off‑gas‑grid households across Scotland.

Global events have pushed heating oil prices sharply upwards in recent days, with households that rely on oil seeing some of the steepest increases. While only around 5% of Scottish households use heating oil as their main heating source, the impact is most deeply felt in rural communities, including many across Stirling and Strathallan, where homes are not connected to the gas network and have no protection from Ofgem’s price cap.

Chris said:

“Many rural households across Scotland depend entirely on heating oil, and recent price increases are causing real anxiety. I’m asking the Government to look again at what additional support can be offered, and to work closely with the Scottish Government so that rural and off‑grid communities are not left behind.”

He added:

“This is a fast‑moving situation, and I want to see solutions that give people confidence and stability. I’ll keep working constructively with Ministers to ensure households in areas like Stirling and Strathallan receive the support they need.”

Chris has submitted a series of parliamentary questions to the UK Government, seeking clarity on what support is available now, what assessments have been made of fuel poverty in rural areas, and how the UK and Scottish governments can work together to protect off‑grid households.

He confirmed he will continue to monitor the situation closely and support affected constituents as prices evolve.
