Chris Demands Action on Dangerous A84 Junctions Near Blair Drummond

Chris is calling for urgent action to improve road safety on the A84 near Blair Drummond following a series of recent accidents at two high-risk junctions.
In a letter to Transport Scotland, he described the current road layout as “no longer fit for purpose,” citing longstanding community concerns and an escalating pattern of incidents, including several collisions in the past week alone.
The junction serving Blair Drummond Safari Park and the nearby A84/A873 junction at Blair Drummond Smiddy have been identified as accident blackspots, particularly during the busy summer months. Chris highlighted the dangers caused by heavy congestion, limited visibility, and a lack of dedicated traffic controls.
Chris said, “This has been a longstanding issue that has been continuously ignored. This area has seen far too many accidents, and recent events only confirm that the situation is getting worse. It is clear the current layout is no longer fit for purpose.”
He expressed particular concern over the absence of a turning lane or traffic signals for vehicles accessing the Safari Park. Visitors are often left queuing in live lanes of fast-moving traffic, while those exiting the park must merge into traffic travelling at national speed limits, frequently with restricted sightlines and pressure from vehicles behind.
Pedestrian safety has also been raised, with Chris noting that pedestrians, including families with children and prams, are expected to cross the A84 on foot near a busy northbound bus stop, despite the lack of a designated crossing.
In his letter, Chris requested that Transport Scotland urgently confirm what measures are being considered to improve safety at these junctions and has requested updated accident statistics to better understand the scale of the problem.
He added, “I will continue pressing this issue until meaningful action is taken. These are preventable risks, and it’s time we put public safety first.”
